A new chapter

So the cat is officially out of the bag...

After six and a half years I am leaving Eyewitness News. It's been an incredible, wild ride - one that I wouldn't trade for anything. After 11 years living overseas, I arrived in Cape Town jobless and homeless in 2010, with only the total conviction that I was meant to come home to South Africa and work here as a journalist. It was enough to convince then editor Janine Willemans to give me a chance. I didn't look back. Since then I have run around the wilds of KZN filming without shoes, travelled to Malawi, had the good fortune of shooting international rugby games from the pitch, met and interviewed incredible human beings, among them David Attenborough, John Cleese, Jane Goodall, Desmond Tutu, to name but a few... I've been welcomed in humble shacks and fancy hotels, spent a weird day sitting outside Mandela's Qunu home, been granted access money couldn't buy and had the privilege of meeting and working with some of the best journalists in the country. Thank you to Tessa van Staden and team members past and present for welcoming me into the EWN family. I am undoubtably a better journalist and human today, thanks to all of you.

What happens now, you may wonder? Well I'm more determined than ever to tell the stories that matter to this country, to give a voice to the voiceless and to develop my filmmaking further. I will be exploring the world of freelancing and look forward to seeing all my friends and colleagues out in the field!
