#IAmNene documentary wins award
Almost a year since I left News24 and a bittersweet moment as my last big project - a documentary about the murder of Uyinene Mrwetyana - wins a WAN-IFRA African Digital Media Award for Best use of online video.
While I'm proud of what our team achieved, I so wish it wasn't necessary to tell that story. Uyinene represented everything that is good and hopeful about South Africa's future. But her life was snatched away in such a brutal, senseless way.
I was particularly proud of the judges' comments:
“The documentary did a good job of capturing the raw emotion of such a tragedy, the tension of a city and nation, while weaving a narrative that reveals not just the details of the crime, but who the victim was, how she lived and impacted others.”
A big thank you to the wonderful team who worked like crazy to help tell her story in such a powerful way. You can view the special site and documentary here:
